There’ve been a TON-BALL of questions about Friday’s class, so we got in contact with Annick, our clash tutor who said the following! Hope it helps! Vee cite!

“On the night there will be a few options so everyone can try their hand at different techniques, I wish we could expose screens in there but it just isn’t feasible!

There will be options to make cut out stencils for printing with open screens, pulling prints on pre exposed screens and using drawing fluid and screen block.

Hopefully everyone will get to play around with one or two methods!

And the whole process will be explained to anyone who cares to listen to it!

So bring along designs (a4 max) if you fancy having a go at your own, if you don’t have time or are shy about it don’t worry because there will be screens ready to pull prints also!”

We have a ton of totes, limited tees (BYOTEE if you likey!), blades, and everything else you’ll ever need!

SCREEN PRINT ART CLASH THANKS TO ASK! CAMPAIGN

Art Clash and ASK! at the The Beatyard in The Twisted Pepper, Friday 3rd of May 8pm

For just €10, learn to create your own custom t-shirt/ tote bag/ work of art through screen print with an expert tutor… all while boozing… and with access to an amazing line up of gigs to wear your new t-shirt/tote bag/work of art to at the The Beatyard!

Converting Twisted Pepper’s loft space into a makeshift Warhol warehouse on Friday 3rd of May at 8pm, Art Clash will be lead by Annick Counihan of Push and Pull Print, who will be guiding you in transferring your own tailored designs, drawings and ideas onto screen printed t-shirts, tote bags and works of art!

Annick will have pre-prepared screens for those a little nervous of creating their own designs, and blank ones for more adventurous attendees, and with her guidance you’ll learn how to make the most perfectly printed tees and totes of your dreams!

The clash is kindly funded by Visual Artists Ireland’s ASK! Campaign (which will inspire Annick’s ready-made designs and can form inspiration for new politically playful designs too – the ASK! campaign deals with investigating how/if artists get paid – see further details below). This means you can come empty handed and everything will await you! (Maybe bring a sharp blade if you have it lying around, though and some sketches if you have a specific idea of a tee/tote you’d like to make!!)

We are also offering a reduced ticket fee of €10 (available at www.artclash.net) and finally the kind folks at Twisted Pepper have said that all Art Clashies can stick around after clash for the amazing line up of gigs they have on for The Beatyard, including Gilles Peterson!

Annick Counihan is a screen printer based in Dublin. She started her own printing company while studying at Trinity College. Push and Pull Print was set up in a studio in Rathmines. Annick’s company began working with local music labels, The Richter Collective and Popical Island, printing shirts, posters and packaging, and also collaborating with Project 54 and Uncle Madness. Annick has a membership with Damn Fine Print studio in Block T and now teaches screen-printing in Dublin & Wexford. Visual Artists Ireland undertook a survey of visual artists who are actively exhibiting and supporting visual arts programming through support services. The initial results of the survey revealed that out of 580 exhibition opportunities covered in the survey, 79.66% could not provide a fee to the artist for their participation.

Further figures indicated that production costs were not met in many cases, and in a large percentage (43.3%) of cases, artists were asked to either pay or contribute to the administration costs of their exhibitions. 77.8% of artists received no fee for education or outreach programmes. Of these 31.9% received a contribution towards travel expenses for these events.

Art Clash works as a forum not only for those unfamiliar with the art world to experience art, but also to work as a support and platform for artists. This is an opportunity to creatively respond to real issues occurring with artists now and express how art activity in itself can work as a body of support.

The ASK campaign will work towards delivering a set of payment guidelines. The guidelines will be based upon international best practice, and will be scalable for different sizes of organizations as well as the experience/reputation of artists. They will also take into consideration the different work undertaken by artists within the context of exhibitions and supporting services.

The collaboration with Art Clash will work to raise awareness about these issues and bring this to people’s attention in a fun, refreshing and social yet creative environment.

- a sharp blade
- some tracing/grease proof paper,
- plain white drawing paper,
- black paint
- a selection of colourful/leftover wrapping paper to use as a background or even if you have any old frames lying around your house (these can also be picked up really easily at charity shops).

Art Clash is back!

Friday February 22nd, widely known Italian sculptor Cecilia Bullo will be leading a class inspired by Victorian Gothic silhouette portraiture.

With her guidance, you will be shown some simple steps to create a portrait of yourself or of a loved/hated one with a contemporary twist! Think Lemony Snicket, Sleepy Hollow, Kate Bush, Helena Bonham Carter, Snow Men with Moustaches, your face on a Sunday morning…!

All you will need is;
- some tracing/grease proof paper,
- plain white drawing paper,
- black paint
- a selection of colourful/leftover wrapping paper to use as a background or even if you have any old frames lying around your house (these can also be picked up really easily at charity shops).

The class will take place at 8pm sharp on Friday the 22nd of February in the basement of The Twisted Pepper

ART CLASH TUTOR CALL OUT 2013!

Art Clash fuses workshops facilitated by Irish based working artists with a clubby, social side. With widespread coverage throughout Ireland, including a large feature in the Visual Artist’s News Sheet, and features in The Irish Times, The Irish Independent, The Examiner, Totally Dublin, Imeall ar TG4 and RTE’s Arena amongst many others, tutoring for Art Clash is an opportunity for wide exposure along with experimenting with new and challenging methods of conducting and teaching an alternative and informal class.

Previous classes have included a multitude of disciplines such as – Film, Performance Art, Aerial Circus Performance, Illustration, Burlesque Life Painting, Printmaking, Animation, Fashion and Street Art.

Classes are conducted in an underground live art venue, with a consciousness and focus on music/djs/carefully selected playlists being key to the class. The social aspect is on a par with the focus on creativity, thus providing all the right elements to immerse the participants in a contemporary art environment without trepidation.
